Can I add Markdown to the body of my calendar events?

Markdown is a simplified formatting language that allows you to stylize the text in your YouCanBookMe booking page and emails.

This feature is available on the Individual, Professional, and Teams plans.

Adding Markdown to your calendar event will result in the formatting being displayed on actual bookings. This is because calendar programs strip the translated formatting and expose the formatting code. Enter only plain text in the body of your calendar event to avoid the exposed formatting.

If you are sharing a static video conference link in the calendar event description, share the raw link, and Google/Microsoft will automatically hyperlink it when the booking is added to your calendar.

When adding shorthand codes to the body of your calendar event, you'll want to add the shorthand codes that are not pre-formatted to be hyperlinked. That means:

  • Use {CANCEL-LINK} for the booker cancel link, instead of {CANCEL}
  • Use {RESCHEDULE-LINK} for the booker reschedule link, instead of {RESCHEDULE}
  • Use {OWNER-CANCEL-LINK} for the owner cancel link, instead of {OWNER-CANCEL}
  • Use {OWNER-RESCHEDULE-LINK} for the owner reschedule link, instead of {OWNER-RESCHEDULE}
  • Use {ZOOM-LINK} for the zoom link generated by YouCanBook.me, instead of {ZOOM}
  • Use {GOOGLEMEET-LINK} for the Google Meet link generated by YouCanBook.me, instead of {GOOGLEMEET)

Your calendar program will automatically hyperlink these "raw links" when they appear on your calendar.

If you or your clients are using a calendar, such as Apple Calendar, which doesn't render links correctly, you can opt to use all plain text formatting. You can find this option on the Account Overview page. Select the box to force plain text in your calendar event descriptions.
